PLC: STEM Monday meetings during Office hours (Aug. 2017-May 2018) approximately 30 meetings, 15 hours.
PLTW training at Embry-Riddle. Trained with University partner as well as other Education professionals from other regions of the country.

ERPL's - Monthly Meetings with other with district professionals for various topics.
PLTW Summit - Oct 23, 24 & 25, 2017 - Networking with national PLTW educators as well as learning new methods and projects to enhance student interest. Project organization as well as "cross-level" integration was learned. Some of these techniques were employed with classes with positive results.
FEEC STEM symposium at UCF - Mar 2, 2018 - Collaboration with regional Educators as well as various industry representatives (NASA, etc) with information and educational sources/programs from STEM students.

Standard 7: Recruitment
Oct 27, 2017 - Timber Creek Elementary School STEM night. Academy students attended to act as representatives of the Engineering Academy and showcase the program.
Dec 14, 2017 - Volusia County Fairgrounds High School Showcase. Academy students attended with samples of technical projects as well as to talk to parents and students.
Jan 10, 2018 - River Springs Middle School Sneak Peak. Academy Students attended as Academy representatives and reviewed class projects with perspective Middle Students and parents.
Jan 17, 2018 - University High School Sneak Peak. Academy Students attended the event and acted as representatives to discuss class content and projects with perspective Middle School students and parents.
Standard 8: Career Focus / Workbased Learning
Grade 9 Introduction to Engineering Design - All students required to complete a Capstone Project. This project is to Reverse Engineer a product using all skills and experiences gained throughout the course. Students also benefit from a Guest Speaker from the Aerospace industry. Mr.Scott Weintraub, CEO, Weintraus Inc. Incubator company at Embry-Riddle for precision orbital placement.
Grade 10/11 Principles of Engineering - All Students required to complete a Capstone Project. This project is to build a complex machine which encompasses the subjects learned throughout the course (Lever arms, gear trains, VEX components (sensors, limit switches, resolvers, etc) and a programmed controller using ROBOTC (form of C++ and JAVA).
Students also benefit from a Guest Speaker from the Aerospace industry. Mr.Scott Weintraub, CEO, Weintraus Inc. Incubator company at Embry-Riddle for precision orbital placement.
Grade 11/12 Aerospace Engineering - All students required to complete a Capstone Project. This project is to build and test a scale rocket which will be launched and recovered. This rocket will encompass knowledge gained throughout the course (aerodynamic theory, propulsion and telemetry).
The Wind Tunnel in the room was not functional. Students reviewed the operational anomaly and established (with contact to the manufacturer) that the controller required repair. Since the upcoming unit on airfoils required a wind tunnel to test the student designs, a class project was initiated to design and build our own wind tunnel.

Students took part in researching and coming up with a solution to a real world problem to connect stainless steel inlet tubes on a satellite attitude control rocket engine to Titanium spacecraft manifold tubing (stainless cannot be welded to Titanium). Most students came up with the technically feasible solution of "friction welding".

Titan Engineering Club - Students in the club take part in solving real problems on campus. Currently troubleshooting charging problems with Media center computer mobile racks.

Engineering Academy students designed a new Academy insignia, New insignia being incorporated into Polo shirts to be worn for academy events as well as on "Academy Thursday" at UHS.

UHS Open House - Aug 29, 2017. Used open house to review Academy goals and objectives for the Engineering Academy.
Attended Volusia County Manufacturer's Showcase on Sep 29, 2017 to network with regional businesses to involve them in possible filed trips and/or guest speaking engagements during respective Engineering Academy classes. Contact was made with our industry representative "BellowsTech" in Ormond Beach.
Collaboration with Embry-Riddle (partner university) during VMA Showcase. Contact with Embry-Riddle Motorsports club with the goal of setting up an on-site demonstration of their in-house designed and fabricated race car.
Meeting with VMA representative (Kenny Norris) on January 24, 2018 to discuss future plant tours of Volusia county manufacturers. VMA to be providing UHS with various posters highlighting technical companies and products manufactured locally.
